A rock climber has died and two others are in hospital after a major rescue operation off the Welsh coast. Emergency services were called to St Govan's Head in Pembrokeshire on Thursday afternoon following reports of three individuals in difficulty.

Dyfed-Powys Police received a call from the ambulance service at around 4.24pm. Coastguard teams from Fishguard, St Govan's and Tenby responded, alongside HM Coastguard and Irish Coastguard helicopters, a Wales Air Ambulance and an RNLI lifeboat.

A police spokesman confirmed on Friday that one of the three climbers had died at the scene, while the other two were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The death is not being treated as suspicious, and next of kin have been informed.
