Arne Slot has expressed confidence that he will remain Liverpool manager for the next season, despite a disappointing defence of their Premier League title. The Dutchman is involved in discussions about the club's summer plans and does not believe he will be sacked.
Slot's Confidence in His Position
Slot stated, "I don't think I am deciding that alone by myself, but I have every reason to believe I am the Liverpool manager next season." He emphasised that he is contracted to the club and that talks with the hierarchy give him no cause for concern. Liverpool are currently fourth in the league and have not yet secured Champions League qualification, leading to criticism from fans.
Slot acknowledged the criticism, saying, "If you don't have the best season, especially if you compare with last season, then it is also normal that criticism comes." He noted that players, the manager, and others at the club have all faced scrutiny.
Fan Reactions and Future Plans
Some supporters booed Slot's decision to substitute Rio Ngumoha in a recent 1-1 draw with Chelsea. However, Slot believes he retains the backing of director of football Richard Hughes and owners Fenway Sports Group. He is involved in planning for the summer, including finding a replacement for departing star Mohamed Salah. "We know where we go on tour, so our plans have been made and talks have been ongoing between the club and new players, and I am involved in that," Slot explained.
Slot also addressed the modern reality of football management, where poor seasons lead to debates about the manager's future. He remarked, "It is not up to me to judge the people who judge me, they have every right to have their opinion." He noted that such criticism is now more public than in the past but is a common occurrence across the football world.
