Moises Caicedo has become the latest Chelsea player to leave the door open to a potential move to Real Madrid, following comments made during Ecuador's recent trip to Spain. The midfielder, who joined Chelsea in a record transfer from Brighton in 2023, told Spanish outlet Diario AS: 'You never know in football, don't you think? I have a contract with Chelsea now.'
Caicedo's remarks come amid turmoil at Stamford Bridge, where teammate Enzo Fernandez has been dropped for two matches after expressing a desire to live in Madrid. Fernandez's agent Javier Pastore slammed the punishment as 'completely unfair' in a bombshell interview.
The Ecuador international, whose contract runs until 2031 with a club option for a further year, added: 'The truth is, I haven't honestly thought about another club, about leaving London, but well, in the end, you never know in football. All I want is to enjoy myself. I have a contract and I want to keep playing as long as God allows. After that, we'll see what happens.'
Caicedo, who is part of Chelsea's leadership group, also reaffirmed his commitment to the club: 'Chelsea is a great club. They've helped me a lot since I arrived. I want to repay them, to show it in every game, for as long as I'm there. And well, time will tell.'
The 23-year-old's comments follow earlier speculation linking him to Real Madrid, to which he had responded: 'I'm focused on my club right now. I have a contract with my club, and I want to do well.'
