Chelsea Face Uefa Probe Over Racial Abuse Allegations

Chelsea could face a Uefa investigation after their striker Michy Batshuayi alleged he was racially abused by Atalanta fans during a Europa League match. The Belgian, on loan at Borussia Dortmund, claimed he was subjected to monkey chants in the last-32 second leg on Thursday.

Uefa confirmed on Monday that Atalanta have been charged with 'racist behaviour (monkey chants)' as well as setting off fireworks, throwing objects and blocking stairways. Dortmund are also being investigated for setting off fireworks and throwing objects.

Batshuayi tweeted after the game: 'A couple idiots should never make us forget why we love football. Let's clean our stadiums and play the beautiful game.' He added: '2018 and still racists monkey noises in the stands ... really ?! Hope you have fun watching the rest of @EuropaLeague on TV while we are through #SayNoToRacism #GoWatchBlackPanther.'

Uefa's control, ethics and disciplinary body will address the case on March 22. Batshuayi played 90 minutes in the second leg as substitute Marcel Schmelzer's equaliser gave Dortmund a 4-3 win on aggregate.
