Federico Chiesa has indicated he would be open to remaining at Liverpool beyond this summer, despite a challenging debut campaign at Anfield. The Italian winger made just 14 appearances for the Reds, with only one Premier League start, but said he would not rule out staying on Merseyside.
Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, the 27-year-old reflected positively on his decision to join Liverpool from Juventus last August for an initial £10 million. 'The year is over. But it's an experience I would do again,' he said. 'Soon I will sit down at the table with the club, my agent and my family to find the best solution. I wouldn't mind staying in Liverpool at all.'
Chiesa admitted frustration at limited game time but stressed he accepted manager Arne Slot's decisions. 'You accept the choices as a professional and you move on,' he said. He acknowledged the difficulty of adapting after arriving late in the transfer window, saying: 'If you think that I arrived in Liverpool on August 26 and found myself catapulted to another planet, with other teammates, without having trained with them...'
The Italian also noted the fierce competition for places, with Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo ahead of him. 'Could I start to discuss the choices of Slot who has always been very respectful towards me?' he asked. 'The desire to play was there, I put it aside, I understood the situation.'
Despite his limited role, Chiesa earned a Premier League winners' medal. He has been linked with a return to Serie A, but his latest comments suggest he is content to stay if a suitable agreement can be reached.
