Dean Henderson is poised to complete a transfer to Crystal Palace after Manchester United granted him permission to undergo a medical following their Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest. The 26-year-old goalkeeper will travel to South London on Saturday evening to finalise the move, which is expected to pave the way for United to sign Fenerbahce's Altay Bayindir as a backup. Bayindir has already undergone medical tests with United staff in Greece earlier this week.
The transfer hinges on personal terms and other formalities, which are yet to be agreed. It remains unclear whether Henderson's departure will be a loan or a permanent deal. Nottingham Forest, who took a surprise 2-0 lead within four minutes at Old Trafford on Saturday, had been keen to sign Henderson after his successful loan spell last season but could not reach an agreement with United.
Henderson was named on the bench for the clash against Forest, serving as understudy to new £47 million signing Andre Onana. Manager Erik ten Hag had challenged Henderson to fight for his place during pre-season, but the goalkeeper has been eager to secure regular game time ahead of next summer's European Championships.
Speaking last summer after his loan move to Nottingham Forest, Henderson criticised former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, claiming he was promised the No.1 spot but was not given the opportunity. He described the situation as 'criminal' and said he was 'fuming' at wasting 12 months of his career.
