Dolphins Hold Firm on Achane Amid Major Roster Overhaul

The Miami Dolphins have embarked on a sweeping roster transformation this offseason, yet one standout player remains firmly off the trading block. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have communicated to other NFL teams that running back De'Von Achane is not on the market, rebuffing all inquiries about a potential trade for the 24-year-old.

Dolphins Shut Down Trade Talks for Achane

Teams across the league have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Achane, but Miami has unequivocally shut down any discussions, signalling their commitment to retaining him. This stance underscores Achane's importance as a long-term fixture in new head coach Jeff Hafley's plans for the franchise in South Florida.

Achane's Impressive Performance and Contract Situation

Entering the final season of his four-year rookie contract, Achane is coming off a career-best year. In the previous season, he rushed for 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns, while also making significant contributions in the passing game with 67 receptions for 488 yards and four touchdowns. His dual-threat capability has made him a valuable asset for the Dolphins' offense.

General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan hinted at the team's desire to keep Achane during remarks at the NFL scouting combine. 'He's a marvelous player,' Sullivan stated. 'We want him to be part of this thing moving forward. We will have those conversations with him as well as some other guys as we move down the road, but that's going to be later in the summer.'

Major Offseason Departures for the Dolphins

In stark contrast to Achane's secure status, the Dolphins have executed a series of high-profile moves to overhaul their roster. Earlier this week, they traded star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos as part of their ongoing rebuild. In exchange, Miami received Denver's first-round pick (30th overall), a third-round pick, and a fourth-round pick, while sending Waddle and a fourth-round pick to the Broncos.

Earlier this month, the Dolphins released quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after a disappointing 2025 campaign where the team went 7-10 and missed the playoffs. Tagovailoa, who signed a lucrative four-year, $212 million contract in July 2024, was replaced by Malik Willis. Additionally, controversial star Tyreek Hill was axed last month, and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was traded to the New York Jets for a 2026 seventh-round pick originally from the Los Angeles Chargers.

Strategic Focus on Retaining Key Talent

Amid this flurry of departures, the Dolphins' decision to retain Achane highlights a strategic focus on building around core young talent. As the team navigates a rebuild under new leadership, Achane's role is poised to expand, making him a central figure in Miami's future offensive schemes.
