Egyptian media have criticised Liverpool manager Arne Slot, accusing him of making Mohamed Salah a scapegoat for the team's recent poor form. The criticism follows Slot's decision to drop Salah for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain, which Liverpool lost 2-0.
Slot explained that he did not bring Salah off the bench due to concerns about the deficit growing larger. However, Egyptian journalist Magdy Salama of Sada El-Balad and Al Qahera News told Foot Mercato that Salah deserved better treatment and that he was being made a scapegoat for the team's poor performances.
Salah, who is expected to leave Anfield at the end of the season, returned to the starting line-up in Saturday's 2-0 win over Fulham, scoring a goal. The forward had previously complained in December that he was being 'thrown under the bus' after being dropped for a match against Leeds.
The Egyptian journalist also highlighted the departures of Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer as greater factors in Liverpool's decline, and pointed to the midfield as an area of weakness compared to last season. Liverpool face PSG in the second leg on Tuesday, needing to win by at least two goals to force extra time.
