Epstein Documents Contain Bizarre Chelsea Football Club References
The recently unsealed Jeffrey Epstein files contain unexpected commentary about Chelsea Football Club's matchday atmosphere, alongside revelations about attempts to connect the convicted sex offender with former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. Daily Mail Sport can exclusively reveal these details from the extensive document release.
Hedge Fund Manager's Stadium Experience
Tancredi Marchiolo, a hedge fund manager whose name appears over 1,000 times throughout the Epstein files, attended Chelsea's final match of the 2015-16 season as a guest of Roman Abramovich. The game saw Chelsea draw 1-1 with Leicester City at Stamford Bridge, concluding a disappointing campaign where the Blues finished 10th under interim manager Guus Hiddink, having previously sacked Jose Mourinho in December while languishing in 16th position.
In a May 2016 email to Jeffrey Epstein, Marchiolo offered his assessment of the experience: "That was another match, I was at Chelsea-Leicester with him. He owns Chelsea only reason I went to stadium....v funny, football matches in UK are as silent as tennis matches in Italy." This comparison between British football atmospheres and Italian tennis events represents one of the more unusual cultural critiques found within the Epstein documents.
Attempted Introduction Between Epstein and Abramovich
Just days before attending the Chelsea match, Marchiolo had emailed Epstein with an introduction proposal: "Ciao you planning Europe? There's someone you should definitely meet." When Epstein revealed he was in Paris, Marchiolo identified Abramovich as his recommended contact.
Epstein responded that they had "never met - his wife looked at my house" and suggested New York as a potential meeting location. The files contain no evidence that this proposed encounter between Epstein and the Russian oligarch ever materialised, nor do they indicate any subsequent communication about Abramovich beyond a September 2016 email mentioning his name from Swedish-American businesswoman Barbro Ehnbom, though the context remains unclear.
Additional Chelsea Connections Emerge
Separately, the released documents reveal that Chelsea's current co-owner Todd Boehly arranged two business meetings with Jeffrey Epstein in 2011, several years after Epstein's initial conviction and prison sentence for soliciting prostitution from a minor. Boehly, then a managing partner at Guggenheim Partners overseeing more than $100 billion in assets, was introduced to Epstein through New York property developer David Mitchell.
Epstein's assistant Lesley Groff coordinated the meetings via email exchanges with Mitchell, confirming an 11am appointment on January 18, 2011, and later attempting to schedule a follow-up conference call in September 2011 regarding what appears to be a reference to former British ambassador Peter Mandelson. There is no suggestion in the correspondence that Boehly's interactions with Epstein extended beyond business discussions.
Marchiolo's Extensive Correspondence with Epstein
Beyond the Chelsea-related communications, Marchiolo's extensive email history with Epstein includes numerous discussions about women, often in sexually explicit terms. In one September 2011 exchange, Epstein asked Marchiolo "what would you like me to do with your friend?" to which Marchiolo replied "Hit on her!" Epstein then continued: "Do you want me to try to do her.. or just torture her."
Two days later, Marchiolo reported back: "She wrote me on BlackBerry Messenger that you are very nice and clever and sent a smiley face. She has excellent oral skills." The files contain multiple other instances where Marchiolo discussed arranging introductions between Epstein and various women.
Jeffrey Epstein was first convicted in 2008 for soliciting prostitution from a minor, serving 13 months in Florida's Palm Beach County jail before his early release in July 2009. The documents revealing these Chelsea connections emerge from materials released by the U.S. Department of Justice as part of ongoing investigations into Epstein's network.
