Lewis Hamilton has vowed to remain in Formula One for a considerable period, despite persistent speculation about his future. The seven-time world champion, who has yet to secure a victory with Ferrari four races into his second season with the team, dismissed those attempting to force him into retirement.
Hamilton's Commitment to F1
Speaking ahead of this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix, the 41-year-old made his intentions clear. 'I am still under contract so everything is 100 per cent clear to me,' Hamilton stated. 'I am still focused, I am still motivated and I still love what I do with all my heart.'
He added: 'I am going to be here for quite some time so get used to it. There are people that are trying to retire me and that is not even in my thoughts. I am already thinking of what will be next and planning for the next five years but I still plan to be here for some time.'
Ferrari's Struggles and Driver Market Buzz
Hamilton's sole podium for the Scuderia came in China in March, and he currently sits fifth in the drivers' standings. Ferrari have not won a race since October 2024 in Mexico. This relative lack of success has fuelled rumours about his future, with Haas driver Oliver Bearman, a Ferrari academy product, among those linked to a potential replacement.
However, Hamilton remains focused on turning around Ferrari's fortunes. When asked about competing in endurance races like Max Verstappen's recent Nurburgring 24 Hours outing, Hamilton expressed little interest. 'Not particularly, no. I love the Nordschleife, I would love to drive a car round there at some stage. I could do but I don't need to,' he said.
Looking Ahead to Canada
Hamilton is optimistic about Ferrari's prospects at the Canadian Grand Prix, a circuit where he has triumphed seven times. He will also have family support in Montreal, with his mother attending the race. 'My mum is coming this weekend, the atmosphere in the city is just electric. The track is one of the best tracks in the world,' Hamilton explained.
'I have been trying to get my mum to come on the road for a while but she has only come to Silverstone for the last God knows how many years. She promised me at the end of last year that next year is the year I travel with you. We did China together which was the best time we have ever had together. We just have a great time. She is really my best friend. It definitely makes a difference to your weekend when you have support from your family.'
