Irankunda's Stunning Free Kick Marks Watford Arrival

Socceroos teenager Nestory Irankunda scored his first goal for Watford with a stunning 25-yard free kick in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Swansea. The 19-year-old winger, who joined the Championship side from Bayern Munich on a five-year deal, curled the ball over the wall and into the left-hand corner to give the Hornets the lead in the 35th minute.

Irankunda had convinced captain Moussa Sissoko to let him take the free kick after usual taker Imran Louza was injured. 'I said to Moussa, 'I feel confident in taking a free kick'. He asked me a couple times, 'are you sure you can take free kicks?' I said 'yeah, go look at my highlight reels!' Then after that, I just put it into the corner,' Irankunda said.

The goal capped another strong performance from the Australian, who proved a handful for the Swansea defence with his speed and skill before being substituted just before the hour as a precaution after appearing to suffer a hamstring knock. Watford's impetus faded after his exit, and Zan Vipotnik equalised for Swansea in the 82nd minute.

Irankunda, who struggled for game time at Bayern, said he is enjoying being back in action. 'It's been good. I feel like myself again, a whole lot more confident. It's fun to come to training every day. I love playing here,' he said. The teenager previously stated his ambition to 'make the crowd go wild' at Vicarage Road.
