Bournemouth Boss Delighted with Team's Response to Key Departure

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has expressed his delight at how his squad has responded to the departure of star forward Antoine Semenyo, following their 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. This result extends the Cherries' unbeaten run to four matches, demonstrating significant resilience after losing their former talisman to Manchester City earlier in the transfer window.

Impressive Form Since Semenyo's Exit

The south coast club have now secured two wins from their last three Premier League outings since Semenyo's high-profile switch to the Etihad Stadium. This latest triumph was particularly hard-fought, with Bournemouth displaying both defensive solidity and clinical finishing when it mattered most.

Following a concerning run of 11 games without a victory earlier this season, Bournemouth have dramatically turned their fortunes around, claiming three wins from their last four matches. This upturn in form has been achieved without their former attacking focal point, with Iraola emphasizing the importance of collective performance over individual replacement.

Match Analysis: Clinical Bournemouth Overcome Wolves

The breakthrough came when Wolves defender Andre's error allowed Junior Kroupi to smash home his eighth goal of the season for the opener. Bournemouth then had to wait until second-half stoppage time to secure the points, with Alex Scott finishing emphatically from close range after a clever assist from debutant Rayan.

Iraola was particularly pleased with securing a first away victory since August, stating: "Very important win because we have good results at home but away we were struggling more. We really needed this win. We have done a very good month of January, considering the factor of Antoine."

The Bournemouth manager elaborated on his team's approach post-Semenyo: "I said it before, it's impossible to replace Antoine player for player but if we play well as a team we will find players who can score goals."

Debutant Makes Immediate Impact

New signing Rayan, who joined from Vasco Da Gama earlier in the week, made an immediate impact from the bench. Introduced in the 68th minute, the midfielder provided the crucial assist for Scott's clinching goal just minutes later.

Iraola praised the debutant's contribution: "It was probably the best scenario for him because he could find the spaces. He showed good composure on the assist and still we need to help him to adapt. He's only trained for two days so will need more information, but it is clear his skill set is very good."

Wolves Rue Missed Opportunities

Despite creating numerous chances, with 17 attempts and seven saves forced from Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, Wolves were unable to breach the visitors' defence. Manager Rob Edwards acknowledged his team's profligacy in front of goal.

Edwards lamented: "We have to be more ruthless and find a way to take those chances. I was convinced if we found an equaliser we could've pushed to win it. I don't feel we deserved to lose."

The Wolves boss also addressed speculation surrounding striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, who came off the bench despite interest from Crystal Palace. Edwards did not rule out a departure, stating: "As far as I'm aware, no. Over these next few hours let's see. He's been focused on the here and now with us, let's see how the next few days pan out."

Bournemouth's victory solidifies their improved form and demonstrates their ability to thrive despite losing key personnel, with Iraola's tactical approach yielding significant rewards during this crucial period of the season.
