Jamie Carragher Appointed Advisor at Non-League Club Marine
Jamie Carragher Takes Advisory Role at Marine FC

Jamie Carragher, widely regarded as one of football's top pundits, has taken on a new role as an advisor at non-league club Marine. The former Liverpool defender will lend his extensive experience to the Merseyside outfit, which currently competes in the National League North following a rapid ascent in recent years.

Marine's Recent Success and Future Plans

Since 2021, Marine has achieved two promotions, reached an FA Trophy semi-final, and famously hosted Tottenham in the FA Cup third round. Based in the coastal town of Crosby, where Carragher resides, the Mariners are focused on continued progress, with plans for a new stadium taking shape. Carragher, who works as a pundit for Sky Sports and CBS Sports, has previously supported Marine through sponsorship and is now formally part of the club's structure at Rossett Park.

Carragher commented: "Marine is a proper community football club with good people involved and a clear vision for where it wants to go. I've enjoyed watching the progress the club has made over recent years and I'm pleased to be able to support the club in an advisory capacity going forward."

Community and Club Reaction

Marine CEO James Leary added: "This is a brilliant moment for Marine Football Club. Jamie is someone who genuinely cares about football and the local community, and he's followed closely what we've been building here over the last few years. His experience and relationships will be a huge help to the club as we continue moving Marine forward."

In January 2021, Carragher stepped in to sponsor Marine after their FA Cup tie against Tottenham was played behind closed doors due to the pandemic, which cost the club around £100,000 in potential revenue. He sponsored the dugouts and pre-match warm-up shirts through his charity, the JC23 Foundation. Marine chairman Paul Leary said: "We are indebted to Jamie and the JC23 Foundation for their support. The JC23 Foundation does magnificent work in helping young people not just in Liverpool but across the world."

Stadium Development and Team Performance

Marine also announced that a full planning application for a new stadium is expected to be submitted to Sefton Council by September. The club has played at Rossett Park, now known as The Marine Travel Arena, since 1903. Under manager Bobby Grant, the team finished 12th in the 2025-26 National League North. Neil Young, who guided Marine to promotions in 2022 and 2024, stepped aside last summer after six-and-a-half years as manager to become the club's first-ever director of football.
