Former England footballer Jill Scott has embarked on a five-day, 388-mile cycle and marathon challenge for Sport Relief. The 37-year-old started her journey at Wembley Stadium in London on Monday morning, the venue where she helped the Lionesses win the European Championship in 2022.
Scott's route will take her north to Sunderland's Stadium of Light. Day one involves a 112-mile bike ride to Aston Villa's Villa Park. On day two, she will cycle 99 miles to Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, followed by a 38-mile run into Manchester on day three.
The challenge continues on Thursday with a 111-mile cycle to the North East, styled after a Tour de France stage. Scott will finish on Friday, June 12, with a 28-mile marathon run to the Stadium of Light. Along the way, she will visit football stadiums and community hubs, joined by former teammates.
Scott expressed her commitment to the cause, stating she was 'honoured' to take part. She highlighted the importance of safe spaces and youth clubs, saying, 'Without those green spaces, without those youth clubs, I would never have gone on to fulfil my dreams of playing for England.'
Donations can be made via Comic Relief's website, and Scott's progress can be tracked online.
