Martin Keown Surprised by Arsenal's Noni Madueke Impact After Debut Season
Keown Surprised by Madueke's Arsenal Impact

Martin Keown has admitted that Arsenal winger Noni Madueke surprised him the most during his debut season at the club, despite initial scepticism from supporters over his signing. The former Chelsea player moved to north London last summer as part of a recruitment drive, but many fans were vocal in their criticism of the deal. However, Madueke has proven his worth, scoring eight goals in 42 appearances across all competitions and playing a key role in Arsenal's Premier League title triumph.

Keown's Praise for Madueke

Speaking to the winger, Keown said: "Noni, you surprised me the most. Remember at the beginning I said one or two of the fans weren’t sure. But you’ve done an incredible job. You’re now going to a World Cup, you’ve won the Premier League. You’ve now really made a mark at this football club already."

Madueke responded: "Thank you, I appreciate that first and foremost. It’s a dream come true to go to the World Cup, to win the Premier League with the team. We have an incredible team like Mikel said. It’s a team where you can put anyone in and perform to a really, really, really high level. Obviously it’s my first season next season will be better and the seasons to come God willing."

Impact on the Pitch

Madueke scored in Arsenal's final league game of the season, a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, providing the perfect preparation for the Champions League final. The England international admitted that the domestic success has yet to fully sink in. "It's an amazing feeling, one you can't put into words," he said. "We had the feeling already after City (drew) the other day, but it's a wave of new emotions when you lift the trophy! I don't think it's dawned on me yet, but it will!"

He added: "It was amazing, so much relief, so much joy, all positive emotions, it's something we've worked so hard for over a span of nine, ten months. To finally get that feeling of yes, we've completed it, was amazing. It was nice to score on the final day of the season, so great. I'll put it in my scrapbook of memories."

Madueke's versatility has been a key asset, with the winger making an impact both as a starter and from the bench. His arrival was initially questioned given the established presence of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on the flanks, but he has carved out a significant role for himself. Keown's comments reflect the broader recognition of Madueke's contribution to a title-winning campaign.
