Laura Woods Left Gobsmacked by Igor Tudor's Post-Match Conduct
TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods was left utterly astonished by the post-match behaviour of Tottenham Hotspur manager Igor Tudor following a devastating Champions League defeat. The interim Spurs boss marched off abruptly after a frosty interview, seemingly without shaking hands or offering any farewell, leaving Woods to exclaim "wow" in disbelief. This incident occurred after Tottenham suffered a humiliating 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their last-16 clash, marking Tudor's fourth consecutive defeat since taking charge.
Tottenham's Disastrous Night in Madrid
The north London side endured a nightmare start in the Spanish capital, conceding three goals within the opening fifteen minutes of the match. In a desperate and controversial move, Tudor responded by substituting goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky immediately after the third goal. Kinsky, who was making his first start since October after replacing dropped first-choice keeper Guglielmo Vicario, was at fault for two of the early goals and received no acknowledgement from his manager as he trudged dejectedly off the pitch and down the tunnel.
Despite late consolation goals from Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanke, Tottenham's defensive errors proved costly, leaving them with a mountain to climb in the second leg. The defeat further compounded the bleak tenure of Tudor, whose position was already precarious before kick-off.
The Frosty Post-Match Exchange
During his post-match interview with TNT Sports, Tudor was noticeably blunt and appeared irritated, offering curt responses to questions. Presenter Laura Woods highlighted that the manager did not even shake hands with the reporter conducting the interview before storming off, though this lack of handshake was not visible on camera. Woods remarked immediately afterwards, "Wow, that was a quick... I don’t even think there was a goodbye but we’ve seen tonight, he doesn’t really like saying goodbye to many people, does he?"
She further criticised Tudor for failing to acknowledge the travelling Spurs fans, stating, "Straight down the tunnel after the game, no acknowledgement of the travelling fans. Look, he would rather not speak but questions need to continue to be asked and he must provide answers. He is the manager."
Tudor's Defensive Comments and Pundit Reaction
When pressed on whether he felt confident about reversing Tottenham's catastrophic form, Tudor responded tersely, "I need to have [confidence]. I need to keep working, not speaking too much and staying focused on things we can do. It’s not the moment to explain too much, in this moment we need to stay calm and less talking is better." He reiterated this stance when asked why things were not working, bluntly stating, "Better less talking. Now is not the moment to try to give big explanations."
Pundit Joe Hart took strong issue with these comments, telling Woods, "How can your man who’s put in charge to steer Tottenham into a better direction not want to speak? What kind of message is he sending there? He’s sending no message to the players. Did he send a message to the fans? He said he apologised to them there but he didn’t acknowledge them in the stadium." Hart emphasised that failing to applaud the away supporters, as Tudor seemingly did, is widely regarded as the bare minimum in English football culture.
The incident has sparked further scrutiny of Tudor's management style and his ability to lead Tottenham out of their current crisis, with his conduct off the pitch drawing as much attention as the team's performance on it.
