Liverpool will need to act swiftly if they hope to secure Marcos Senesi as a free agent following his departure from Bournemouth. The Cherries confirmed on Friday that the centre-back will leave when his contract expires this summer, sparking significant interest in the Argentina international.
Senesi's Impressive Season
Senesi has been a standout performer for Andoni Iraola's side this season, making 37 appearances across all competitions. He has helped Bournemouth reach sixth place in the Premier League, with a strong chance of securing European football next season with just two games remaining.
The 29-year-old has rejected multiple contract offers from Bournemouth and will leave the club this summer, much like Iraola. Liverpool are among the clubs linked with Senesi, but Tottenham have reportedly stolen a march on their rivals.
Personal Terms Agreed with Spurs
According to talkSPORT, Senesi has agreed personal terms with Tottenham and is set to move to north London, provided they avoid relegation. Spurs are unbeaten in their last four games and sit two points above West Ham in the final relegation place ahead of the weekend's penultimate round of fixtures.
Liverpool's Defensive Needs
Liverpool are in the market for a centre-back this summer, with uncertainty surrounding Joe Gomez's future and Ibrahima Konate yet to sign a new contract. Captain Virgil van Dijk is now 34 years old, and with Giovanni Leoni suffering a season-ending knee injury soon after arriving last summer, there remains a need for reinforcements despite the pending £60 million arrival of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.
Senesi has been the bedrock of Bournemouth's climb up the table in 2026, partnering James Hill to 11 clean sheets during their current 16-game unbeaten run. Since joining from Feyenoord in 2022, he has made 124 appearances for the club in total.
Senesi's Farewell Message
“From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this club,” Senesi told the club website. “I’m proud of everything we achieved over the last four years and I’m grateful for the support the fans have always given me. AFC Bournemouth will always hold a special place for me and I will look back at my time here with fond memories. For now, there are still two big games left of the season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”
