Manchester United can now turn their attention to the summer transfer window after securing Champions League qualification. The club faces several key decisions, including the appointment of a permanent manager, with interim boss Michael Carrick involved in transfer discussions.
First Steps Made for Sporting CP Star Maxi Araujo
Sporting CP left-back Maxi Araujo, 26, has attracted interest from a growing list of clubs through his impressive performances this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. Portuguese outlet A Bola reports that United have held exploratory talks with the player's agents.
Premier League rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to have spoken to his representatives. However, Atletico Madrid are currently leading the race for his signature. Araujo has three years remaining on his Sporting contract, which includes a £69 million release clause. United captain Bruno Fernandes arrived from Sporting in 2020, and the club hopes Araujo can replicate his success.
Worrying Update Overseas on Rafael Leao
Manchester United have also been linked with AC Milan forward Rafael Leao, but recent form is a concern. The Portugal international has been criticised by Italian media after a 'poor' display in Serie A. Leao could be available for around £52 million in the summer.
Calciomercato slammed his recent performance against Atalanta as Milan's Champions League hopes suffered a blow. Leao, described as having an 'apathetic attitude', was substituted before the hour mark with his side trailing 3-0. He has scored 10 goals this term for Max Allegri's side. While United may be worried by his lack of form, the club could help him rediscover his best at Old Trafford.
