Manchester United striker Matheus Cunha has opened up about his early days at Old Trafford, revealing how Carlo Ancelotti's tactical approach with Brazil is helping him adapt. The 26-year-old, who joined United from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer, has yet to score or assist for his new club, who sit 10th in the Premier League after seven matches.
Cunha, currently on international duty with Brazil, impressed in a 5-0 win over South Korea. Speaking to Globo, he highlighted Ancelotti's ability to get the best out of players through tactical flexibility. 'One of Ancelotti's greatest strengths is getting the best out of each player,' Cunha said. 'He understands how to get the best out of everyone on the pitch.'
The forward discussed his versatility, noting that he has played as a midfielder, centre-forward, and winger. 'Having a versatile player is a huge help for any coach,' he added. Cunha also touched on his United experience, saying he feels 'very happy' despite the team's inconsistent form. 'Even though we don't know how we'll play the next game in terms of formation, everyone feels great,' he explained.
Cunha acknowledged the pressure of being a high-profile signing at United, but sees it as a privilege. 'I think that because I play for Manchester United and people follow me more on the pitch, they understand better how I play,' he told A Bola. 'It's a weight that came after the Tokyo Olympics. And if it means having that weight and becoming a champion, I think it's worth putting up with a little bit of confusion.'
The Brazilian also noted that playing for United gives him greater visibility in his home country, where the club has many fans. 'Being here now with the national team, at United, is, without a doubt, a different level, a different moment as a player,' he concluded.
