English golfer Marco Penge has provided a health update after withdrawing from the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic last week due to recurring health issues. The 27-year-old is now focusing on being fit for the PGA Championship, which begins this week.
Health Scare and MRI Results
Penge revealed that he underwent an MRI scan on his brain, head, and neck after suffering from a recurring problem affecting his ear, neck, and nervous system. The issue began after a viral infection in November last year. After experiencing another sinus infection and vertigo symptoms, he decided to seek further medical evaluation.
In a statement on social media, Penge wrote: "Last week I decided enough was enough after getting another sinus infection and vertigo symptoms. I proceeded with an MRI scan on my brain, head and neck and got the results back today. Thankfully, the images were great and so a few of the doubts I had have gone away which is a big relief."
He added: "I'm battling to get fully fit again and hopefully that's not too far away. Thank you for your support as always! Looking forward to playing my 2nd PGA championship this week!"
Road to Recovery
Penge initially withdrew from the Myrtle Beach Classic with a brief statement, saying: "Unfortunately, I have had to WD from this week at Myrtle Beach due to health reasons. It's nothing serious I just need to get fully fit for next week at the PGA Championship."
His decision to undergo an MRI scan has provided reassurance, as the results were clear, alleviating some of his concerns.
Career Highlights
Penge is currently ranked 40th in the world and secured his 2026 PGA Tour card after a successful 2025 DP World Tour season. In February, he was awarded the Seve Ballesteros Award after winning three DP World Tour titles and finishing second to Rory McIlroy in the Race to Dubai.
His victories in 2025 included the Hainan Classic in April, the Danish Golf Championship in August, and the Open de Espana in October. These wins earned him spots at The Masters and The Open in 2026.
In his Masters debut last month, Penge made the cut and finished tied for 49th. At last year's PGA Championship, he finished tied for 28th at 1-under par.
Looking Ahead
Penge is scheduled to tee off in this year's PGA Championship at 6:49 pm. He is determined to be fully fit and build on his previous performances in major tournaments.
