Rory McIlroy sold his £2 million dream home in Northern Ireland in 2013 before eventually returning to the UK with his wife Erica Stoll last year. The property, built in 2006 near Holywood, County Down, sat on 14 acres and included a gym, driving range, tennis court and a practice area. It was bought by former TV presenter Gary McCausland for less than the asking price.
After the sale, McIlroy moved to Palm Beach, Florida, into a mansion previously owned by Ernie Els, worth triple the value of his Northern Ireland home. He cited his American wife, lifestyle and weather as reasons for moving stateside, saying: 'My life is here. I have an American wife. I live in America. Honestly, I enjoy it here more. The way of life is easier. The weather. The convenience.'
However, after over a decade in Florida, McIlroy, Erica and their five-year-old daughter Poppy relocated to the UK last year. They now live in a Wentworth property in Surrey, England, which reportedly cost £9 million to renovate. The house sits near one of the tees at the Wentworth golf course, birthplace of the Ryder Cup.
McIlroy said the move reignited his competitive spirit. Before last year's Genesis Scottish Open, he commented: 'We came back a few weeks ago and moved into our new home in Wentworth... It's amazing what two weeks of a bit of detachment can do for you... it's been nice to have this time to reflect and also to rekindle my excitement and enthusiasm for the rest of the year.'
The 36-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful 2025, including a Masters victory and a Ryder Cup win. However, 2026 has started slowly, with no titles in the first few months. Coverage of The Masters begins on April 6.
