The 2026 PGA Championship gets underway on Thursday as Rory McIlroy looks to make it two from two in majors this year following his Masters triumph. However, the Northern Irishman has reportedly made a concerning confession to his caddie, Harry Diamond, ahead of the tournament at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
McIlroy's Major Quest
McIlroy begins his quest for major silverware anew at the PGA Championship. He is among the favourites to emerge victorious, though defending champion Scottie Scheffler is the outright favourite to keep his crown. Twelve years have passed since McIlroy last won this particular title. The 37-year-old is in fine form but has some fans worried following recent concerns over a toe injury that could affect his performance this weekend.
Super Group Tee-Off
He will tee off at 1.40pm UK time alongside fellow stars Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth in a veritable 'super group'. As fate would have it, Spieth was the last man to win the first two majors of any calendar year after clinching the Masters followed by the US Open in 2015. Scheffler's title defence will not kick off until the much later slot of 7.05pm UK time. He will tee off at the first hole alongside in-form Matthew Fitzpatrick and another British favourite, Justin Rose.
Rule Change Controversy
The event has also been hit by a rule change row, adding further intrigue to the competition. McIlroy's worrying comment to his caddie has raised eyebrows, with speculation that it could impact his performance. Despite the concerns, McIlroy remains a strong contender as he seeks to add another major to his collection.
