Rangers Manager Rohl Backs Squad's Title Credentials
Rangers manager Danny Rohl has emphatically declared that his team possesses both the necessary mentality and the essential quality required to emerge victorious in the fiercely contested Scottish Premiership title race. As the league campaign enters its decisive final stretch following the international break, Rohl's side prepares for a pivotal encounter against Dundee United at Ibrox this afternoon.
A Chance to Seize the Summit
A victory in today's match would propel Rangers to the top of the Premiership table for the first time in just over two years. Securing three points would see the Glasgow club leapfrog current leaders Hearts on goal difference, although the Tynecastle side could reclaim the summit when they travel to face Livingston tomorrow. Meanwhile, Celtic, the third contender in this gripping three-way battle, are also in action tomorrow afternoon as they visit Dundee at Dens Park.
Rohl, however, is adamant that even if his team ascends to first place today, they will maintain the relentless mindset of hunters throughout the remaining fixtures. "We know at the end the importance is after the last match-day to be top," he stated. "It is nice to have this now, but even if we would be top, I would still speak from (the position of) we are the hunters. We want to hunt wins. We want to hunt our opponent. And with this mindset, we should go in the next seven games."
Strength and Conviction in the Squad
Expressing considerable confidence in his players, Rohl highlighted the team's mental fortitude and recent performances as key reasons for optimism. "I'm happy. I feel really good because I see my group at the moment. I also see the development. I think we are mentally strong," he explained. "We took the win away against St Mirren, the pressure was on after two draws (against Livingston and Celtic), but we came back and we made a very good performance. A nice performance against Aberdeen, we used the chance and it gives me a lot of belief. There is no doubt my group is strong, convinced, and we have the quality to win the league."
Rangers' emphatic 4-1 victory over Aberdeen in their last outing has kept significant pressure on league leaders Hearts, demonstrating their capability to deliver under pressure. All three title rivals now have just seven games remaining, meaning any slip-ups in the coming weeks could prove pivotal in determining the final outcome.
Navigating Challenges and Injuries
Looking ahead to the Dundee United match, Rohl acknowledged the challenge posed by an opponent against whom Rangers have failed to win in two meetings this season. "We have to work hard. I think we played Dundee United twice this season and we couldn't win against them. This is a new challenge. They did well against Celtic (a 2-0 win), we are prepared for this," he said. "We know what we face and it will be a challenge. They have a small chance to make the top six and both teams want to win and we need a good performance."
On the injury front, Rohl revealed that one unnamed player will miss the United match due to a training ground injury that is expected to sideline him for a period extending beyond just one game, potentially ruling him out for the subsequent fixture against Falkirk as well. "We have some small issues and one bigger issue. One player is going to be out tomorrow. I won't speak today about who it is," Rohl commented. "It is a bit of a shame. It happened during training. Unfortunately not out just one game, it will be a little bit longer. Hopefully he comes back before the split but it looks more like it could be during the split." In more positive news, Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen is available again after recovering from injury.
Predicting a Thrilling Finale
With Rangers facing Dundee United and Falkirk in their final two games before the league split, Rohl anticipates a captivating conclusion to the season. "I expect a really exciting split," said the German manager. "You never know, it could be after two matchdays you are six points ahead, because the picture is like this. Or you have stolen three points from behind. You never know what happens. Maybe there are some turns, maybe not. I think this is exciting for everyone. Especially with three teams, and three teams at the moment are very close to each other."
Rohl went so far as to suggest that the Premiership title race is currently one of the most compelling in European football. "For a neutral supporter, a football fan, this is maybe one of the exciting title races in Europe at the moment," he remarked. "As a manager, you look forward, because you know with your group you can win this title. This is also a great feeling. And I'm looking forward to this. But you have to do it first two more games. Two more wins, and then you have a good position."
The stage is set for a dramatic climax to the Scottish Premiership season, with Rangers under Danny Rohl's leadership firmly believing they have the attributes required to secure the championship crown.
