Manchester City midfielder Rodri has moved to clarify his recent comments about a potential move to Real Madrid, insisting they were taken out of context. The 29-year-old Spain international had sparked speculation by stating that 'you can't turn down the best clubs in the world' and praising the Bernabeu as 'incredible' and 'imposing'.
Rodri, who previously played for Real Madrid's local rivals Atletico Madrid, made the remarks during an interview with Spanish radio station Onda Cero. He also admitted he would 'like to return to Spain' and that La Liga is where he started, though he noted the Premier League is his 'weakness' after seven years at City.
Following criticism, Rodri fired back after Spain's 3-0 friendly win over Serbia on Friday. 'If, out of a 50-minute interview, they cut out whatever they want... I don't have much more to say,' he said. 'The interview is there if you want to listen to it in its entirety... and not just certain snippets.'
Rodri, whose contract at City runs until June 2027, is currently recovering from an injury. He stressed that his immediate focus is on returning to full fitness and preparing for the upcoming World Cup, not on contract talks. 'That will come,' he added, 'especially with a World Cup coming up.'
