Body Language Expert Spots Anger and Sadness in Salah's Liverpool Farewell Video

Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, announcing his departure in an emotional video posted on social media. The 33-year-old Egyptian joined the Reds in 2017 and signed a two-year contract extension last season, but has now decided to move on after nine years at the club.

In the video, Salah said: “Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell: I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club. It's a passion. It's a history. It's a spirit.”

Body language expert Darren Stanton analysed the video for OLBG and noted signs of both anger and sadness. “There's some real anger in Salah. We see this chin-thrust motion when it cuts to him speaking. He has his head held high. I think he is seeking to demonstrate great dignity, but there is anger over what has gone on at Liverpool behind the scenes for this to come to pass,” Stanton said.

Stanton also observed sadness, with Salah’s eyebrows coming together and his mouth curling down as he fought back tears. However, the expert believes the anger is directed at himself rather than the club or manager. “Salah’s anger may be at himself and his body no longer being able to do what his mind wants it to do due to age. It could well be a self-directed anger at the fact he’s not performing and he can’t create that same magic anymore,” Stanton added.

Salah helped Liverpool win the Premier League title last season, scoring 34 goals, but has endured a difficult campaign this term. His farewell video concluded with a poignant message: “Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
