Sam Kerr's Lavish Mini-Honeymoon in Cotswolds

Australian football sensation Sam Kerr and her wife, former West Ham defender Kristie Mewis, have indulged in a lavish 'mini honeymoon' in the picturesque Cotswolds region of south-central England, following their extravagant New Year's Eve wedding in Australia. The couple, accompanied by their baby son Jagger, opted for a luxurious retreat at the exclusive Estelle Manor in Oxfordshire, where nightly rates can soar to an astonishing $2360.

A Relaxing Escape in the English Countryside

The pair made the 90-minute journey from London to immerse themselves in the serene surroundings of the Cotswolds. On the latest episode of the Mewis Squared podcast, Kristie Mewis shared intimate details of their indulgent stay, highlighting the estate's comprehensive amenities and their leisurely approach to dining.

"They have different restaurants on site, they have everything that you would ever want to relax there," Mewis explained. "We kind of just went to every single restaurant and sat there for three or four hours in one sitting."

Endless Coffee and Culinary Delights

Describing their daily routine, Mewis revealed that breakfast sessions stretched from seven in the morning until eleven, with the couple savouring multiple coffees and sampling various dishes throughout the day. "It was just one of those things where you just kept ordering coffees and kept ordering things, you would also go back up and get some fruit," she said. "It's one of those places where you just don't have to do anything…we felt like we just sat and ate the whole time."

Kerr's Focus Shifts to Asian Cup Ambitions

As the couple returns from their romantic interlude, Sam Kerr's attention now turns to her professional commitments with the Matildas. Next month, the striker will be a pivotal figure as Australia hosts the Asian Cup, aiming to secure victory on home soil.

Reflecting on her previous triumph in the tournament as a teenager in 2010, Kerr acknowledged the challenge ahead. "Sixteen years ago seems crazy. It feels like yesterday," she told ABC Perth. "I thought I would win many more. I think it shows how hard it is to win the Asian Cup and the importance of the tournament."

Embracing New Leadership Under Montemurro

Kerr expressed enthusiasm for working under new coach Joe Montemurro, praising his clear tactical vision and positive influence on the squad. "He wants to play a certain style of football, which has been really clear," the skipper stated. "When you have a clear identity as a team, it is easy to get everyone to focus on themselves...we also need to be at our best, physically and mentally."

She added, "It's nice to have an Aussie in there. I think it just hits home when you've got an Aussie coaching you. He's a top coach, and he's been really good for the group off the pitch too."

Matildas' Group Stage Fixtures

The Australian national team will commence their Asian Cup campaign with group matches against the Philippines on March 1 in Perth, followed by Iran on March 5 at the Gold Coast, and South Korea on March 8 in Sydney. Kerr's leadership and goal-scoring prowess will be crucial as the Matildas pursue silverware in front of a home crowd.
