Liverpool Midfielder Szoboszlai Addresses Contract Situation

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has confirmed that no new progress has been made regarding signing a new contract with the Premier League champions. However, the Hungarian international has emphatically stated his affection for the club and his desire to secure his long-term future at Anfield.

Contract Talks Remain in Early Stages

The 25-year-old, who has emerged as one of Liverpool's standout performers this season, acknowledged that discussions about an extension have begun, three years after his arrival from RB Leipzig. When questioned by reporters about any developments, Szoboszlai responded candidly, saying, 'Nothing yet, to be honest. Nothing. From now on… it is not in my hands.'

He elaborated further, noting, 'There is no progression but if the right offer comes then let’s see. We will see. It is always there and back and there. Let’s see what happens, hopefully everyone will be happy at the end.'

Szoboszlai's Profound Connection to Liverpool

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the negotiations, Szoboszlai expressed unwavering enthusiasm for his current environment. He declared, 'I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds.'

When pressed on whether an agreement is imminent, the midfielder added, 'It is not on me. I would love to. We will see.' His comments underscore a genuine eagerness to remain with the Merseyside outfit, highlighting a strong personal and professional bond.

Leadership Ambitions and On-Field Aspirations

Szoboszlai, who is maturing into a leadership role and harbours ambitions of becoming a future Liverpool captain, reflected on his responsibilities. As the captain of the Hungarian national team, he stated, 'Of course, we have a few leaders in the team with the older guys, they are longer here than a couple of us, and I try to do my job on the pitch, try to help the team and help the new guys and everyone and if I need to step up as a leader then I will.'

His stellar performances this season have only strengthened his case for a prominent role, both on and off the pitch. Szoboszlai emphasised his relentless drive for improvement, saying, 'I am the type of guy who it is never enough for me, I can always be better and better, so there is no limit up there. I would like to get as many goals as I can, as many assists and win as many trophies as possible. That's my plan. That's how I grew up and that's how I want to keep going.'

Broader Context at Liverpool

Szoboszlai's contract situation unfolds against a backdrop of other ongoing negotiations at Liverpool. The club is also engaged in direct conversations with midfielder Ryan Gravenberch's agency regarding a new deal, while securing Alexis Mac Allister's long-term future remains a priority on their agenda.

This period of contract discussions highlights Liverpool's strategic efforts to retain key talent as they build for future success, with Szoboszlai positioned as a central figure in their plans.
