Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has expressed his belief that securing the Carabao Cup could serve as a powerful springboard for the club to pursue multiple trophies this season. The Gunners are now just one victory away from ending a six-year wait for silverware after their impressive semi-final triumph over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.
Building Momentum for a Historic Campaign
Mikel Arteta's squad has positioned themselves for a potentially historic campaign, currently sitting six points clear at the Premier League summit while also advancing to the Champions League knockout stages with an impeccable group phase record. Their domestic cup ambitions remain strong, with an upcoming FA Cup fourth-round tie against League One side Wigan Athletic adding to their busy schedule.
Timber's Perspective on Cup Success
When questioned about whether Carabao Cup success could catalyse further trophy wins, Timber provided an insightful response. "We don't have anything yet, but we've put ourselves in an amazing position to win," the Dutch international stated. "The Carabao Cup final is coming early, so maybe that could be nice for us as a motivation and a boost towards the other cups as well."
Timber praised his team's resilience, noting: "It's not always possible to play your best. But this team does an amazing job of finding a way to win, no matter what. We have done it away at Chelsea, where it is not easy to win, and then at home as well. So, it is very deserved."
Celebrating the Wembley Achievement
The defender described the palpable relief and joy within the squad following their semi-final victory. "You could see how relieved everyone was and how happy that we are going to Wembley," Timber observed. "And hopefully there are more celebrations to come."
Havertz's Crucial Contribution
Kai Havertz emerged as the match-winner against Chelsea, coming off the bench to score in stoppage time and secure Arsenal's place in the final. The German international has made a remarkable return following nearly a year sidelined with hamstring and knee surgeries, scoring twice in his last three appearances.
Timber highlighted Havertz's importance to the squad, remarking: "Kai's presence within the team makes a big difference, but also on the pitch. Everyone can see his amazing qualities, and how happy we all were for Kai."
The defender added personal insight about his teammate: "He is a fun character. He is not quiet and everyone likes him. When he's not there, I think everyone notices that, so we're happy he's here with us again. I hope he enjoys this moment, and hopefully there are many more moments like this for him."
Looking Ahead to Premier League Action
Arsenal now turn their attention back to Premier League duties, hosting Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. The north London club could potentially extend their lead over Manchester City to nine points before Guardiola's side face champions Liverpool in a crucial Sunday encounter.
With multiple competitions still in play and momentum building, Timber's comments reflect a growing confidence within the Arsenal camp that this season could mark a significant turning point in their quest for sustained success across all fronts.
