Thomas Tuchel has finalised his 26-strong England squad for the upcoming World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico, with the official announcement set for Friday morning. The squad, which has been gradually revealed through player confirmations and reports, features several bold decisions, including the omission of high-profile players like Harry Maguire, Phil Foden, and Cole Palmer, while including surprises such as Ivan Toney.
Goalkeepers
Jordan Pickford remains the undisputed number one, with Dean Henderson and James Trafford as likely backups. Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope have been left out, while Tuchel has considered using Jason Steele as a non-playing training goalkeeper.
Defenders
Harry Maguire, who expressed shock at his exclusion, has been dropped despite featuring in March friendlies. Tuchel has favoured Ezri Konsa, Marc Guéhi, John Stones, Dan Burn, and Jarell Quansah. Fitness concerns surround Stones and Reece James, both of whom have limited recent game time. Tino Livramento is expected to be included despite a thigh injury, while Ben White is out injured. At left-back, Nico O'Reilly and Myles Lewis-Skelly have been preferred over Luke Shaw.
Midfielders
Declan Rice is a certain starter, with Elliot Anderson set to partner him. Jordan Henderson's experience earns him a place, while Kobbie Mainoo's return to form has secured his spot. Adam Wharton and Alex Scott miss out, but James Garner could be included for his versatility.
Forwards
Jude Bellingham, Eberechi Eze, and Morgan Rogers are the three number 10s selected, with Cole Palmer and Phil Foden omitted due to poor form. Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Gordon are the wingers. Harry Kane leads the line, with Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney as backups. Toney's recall is a surprise, as he has played only two minutes under Tuchel, but his penalty-taking ability is a factor. Danny Welbeck, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Dominic Solanke have been overlooked.
Tuchel's squad is defined by consistency and a clear vision, aiming to balance experience and youth for a deep tournament run.
