Tuchel Slams Wembley Crowd for Booing Ben White

Thomas Tuchel expressed disappointment at the Wembley crowd for booing Ben White during England's 1-1 draw with Uruguay. The defender was jeered when introduced as a substitute in the 69th minute, despite scoring what looked to be the winner before conceding a stoppage-time penalty.

“I heard that he was booed,” Tuchel said. “It cannot be the majority. There were some boos and some mixed reception for him which I’m disappointed about because of course we protect our players. He was excellent in camp and he deserved to come on. He got us almost a winner.”

The England head coach also criticised the refereeing performance of German official Sven Jablonski, particularly the failure to penalise Ronald Araújo for a tackle on Phil Foden and the decision to award Uruguay a late penalty after a VAR review. “It’s a very soft penalty,” Tuchel added. “I was surprised VAR was in place because I thought it was not working after the tackle on Phil Foden was not even checked.”

Noni Madueke left the stadium in a leg brace after suffering an injury in the first half, a potential blow for Arsenal. There was also confusion over Uruguay’s Manuel Ugarte, who appeared to receive two yellow cards but was not sent off; it later emerged that the first booking was actually shown to José María Giménez.
