The BBC's latest thriller series, Two Weeks In August, premieres tonight (Saturday 23 May). Created by Catherine Shepherd, known for Sally4Ever, the show is described as 'witty and painfully relatable' and features an ensemble cast. The story follows a group of friends reuniting for a summer holiday.
Directors and Cast
Tom George, director of This Country and Sherwood, directed episodes one through four, while Matthew Moore of Colin from Accounts directed episodes five through eight. The cast includes Jessica Raine, famous for Call the Midwife, as Zoe. Leila Farzad plays Nat, and Nicholas Pinnock portrays Solomon.
Plot Synopsis
The series is set in Greece and follows Zoe, a woman who goes on holiday with family and friends to rediscover joy. An illicit kiss turns paradise into a nightmare. The group becomes trapped on the island and faces life-or-death situations, turning on each other. The synopsis hints at ancient Greek gods playing a role.
Filming Locations
Although the story is set in Greece, filming took place in Malta and Gozo. Executive producer Catherine Shepherd explained: 'Malta is a stunningly beautiful place, which is very important to the story. It has a dramatic, rugged landscape and, like Greece, is steeped in ancient history. The island is a character in its own right; it is beautiful but a bit dangerous.'
Two Weeks In August airs Saturday nights at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
