UFC Star's Desperate Embassy Plea Rescues London Main Event
Movsar Evloev, the undefeated Russian featherweight, has disclosed the extreme measures he took to resolve critical visa problems that nearly derailed his UFC London headline bout against Lerone Murphy. With the fight just days away, Evloev's UK entry permit had not been issued, casting serious doubt over Saturday's main event at the O2 Arena.
A Career-Defining Moment Hangs in the Balance
The 32-year-old wrestling specialist, who joined the UFC in 2019 and has rapidly ascended the featherweight ranks with victories over notable opponents like Dan Ige, Diego Lopes, Arnold Allen, and Aljamain Sterling, faced the prospect of missing what many believe is a title eliminator. The bout against Britain's Lerone Murphy is widely seen as determining the next challenger for Alexander Volkanovski's championship.
"It look like London not accept me, like... not inviting me, but I pushed all my willing and finally I get here. Yeah, thank God," Evloev told reporters during Thursday's UFC London media day, revealing the emotional rollercoaster of the visa ordeal.
Direct Embassy Intervention
Evloev described taking matters into his own hands when bureaucratic delays threatened to end his London ambitions. "And was a little issue with my visa, you know? It was literally, I just go to embassy and ask the main guy who working there, just please give it to me because now all my career depend on this visa. And they help me. And this is the only thing what helped me with my visa to be honest," he explained to All Out Fighting.
The Russian fighter admitted there were moments when he believed the fight would be cancelled. "Everyone knows about this and there was moments at one point where I thought this is it, we're not going to be able to save this fight, I'm not going to be able to make it there for the fight. But thankfully all of that is behind us, I'm here, and none of that, none of those issues have at any point taken me away from my goal. I have a goal, I set it, I'm here to achieve it."
Technical Mastery Versus Spectacular Finishes
With a perfect 19-0 professional record that includes only seven stoppage victories, Evloev addressed questions about his fighting style. While he acknowledges constantly seeking finishes, he emphasizes that victory remains paramount. "I'm always looking for finishes. Maybe it's not my style, like, maybe I'm more just, you know, do something to make my opponents tired, you know, yeah, just technical work, you know. It's because at the end victory is the most important part of the fight, right?"
He elaborated further: "So, okay, if I have finish but I didn't win-like if my opponent finish me, maybe my fans will be happy because it's like first finish, but not from me. I don't accept it."
Respect Before War
Both fighters enter Saturday's contest with unblemished records on the line. Evloev expressed respect for his opponent but made clear his intentions for the bout. "He great everywhere, to be honest. And I respect him. But in Saturday there is no place for respect. I'm coming for war," he declared, setting the stage for what promises to be a high-stakes featherweight clash.
The visa resolution ensures that UFC London will proceed with its scheduled main event, much to the relief of MMA fans who had feared the cancellation of this pivotal matchup between two rising stars in the division.
