Micky van de Ven Slams 'Nonsense' Claims Tottenham Players Lack Commitment
Van de Ven Dismisses Claims Tottenham Players Don't Care

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven has delivered a passionate rebuttal against allegations that players at the North London club have disengaged from their precarious Premier League situation, labelling such reports as "nonsense." The Dutch defender's comments come during a turbulent period for Spurs, who are fighting to avoid relegation after a string of poor results.

Defender Hits Back at Criticism

Van de Ven, who has faced scrutiny following a recent red card against Crystal Palace and a costly error in Tottenham's 5-2 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid, addressed the media to defend his and his teammates' dedication. "The only thing I can say is it's not true," he stated firmly. "It would be strange if a player was in the dressing room now and saying, 'I'm going to leave either way, or I don't focus about the situation because everything that's going to happen, it doesn't affect me', so I think it's just nonsense."

Frustration Over Fabricated Stories

The 24-year-old expressed frustration at what he described as baseless rumours, which he believes are damaging team morale and fan confidence. "The other day when we read something about one guy that said to everyone that he's probably going to leave and doesn't care about the situation they're in, and then someone reads this and we're just like, how does this come out? People are just making things up," Van de Ven explained.

He emphasised the negative impact of such speculation, noting, "It's just frustrating for us as well because it brings so much more trouble as well, because the fans are starting to believe this."

Unified Focus on Survival Battle

Van de Ven insisted that everyone at Tottenham remains fully committed to turning their season around. "Trust me all the people involved on the pitch, the staff, the players, everyone, they care so much about the situation we're in right now," he affirmed. "We just want to turn things around and that's the most important, that's the main focus for everyone."

Reflecting on his own recent performances, the defender acknowledged room for improvement but reiterated his dedication. "I just want to stay fit and turn things around. Obviously, the last games from my side hasn't been the best and I know that as well. It's just most important that I keep showing to everyone that I always give 100 per cent to this club. I will always do as long as I play."

Context of Tottenham's Struggles

Tottenham's plight has deepened in recent weeks, with the club suffering a club-record sixth consecutive loss in their Champions League exit to Atletico Madrid. However, a spirited 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Sunday offered a glimmer of hope. Van de Ven's comments aim to bolster team unity as they face a critical period in their fight to avoid dropping out of England's top flight.

"For me, the most important is that we turn things around right now," he concluded, underscoring the collective determination within the squad to reverse their fortunes and secure Premier League survival.
