West Brom Sack Ryan Mason After 10th Consecutive Away Defeat
West Brom sack head coach Ryan Mason

West Bromwich Albion have parted company with head coach Ryan Mason after a dismal run of away form culminated in a late defeat at Leicester City.

A Tenure Cut Short After Seven Months

The decision was confirmed by the club on Monday, just hours after a stoppage-time goal sealed a 1-0 loss for the Baggies at the King Power Stadium. This result marked a dismal milestone: the team's tenth consecutive away defeat in the Championship. The loss left West Brom languishing in 18th place in the league table, a position that proved untenable for the board.

Mason, who is just 34 years old, was appointed in June on a three-year contract, arriving with a reputation built during various backroom roles at Tottenham Hotspur. His time at The Hawthorns, however, has lasted only seven months.

Backroom Staff Also Depart

In a statement, the club confirmed that two members of Mason's coaching team, Nigel Gibbs and Sam Pooley, have also left their positions. West Brom expressed gratitude to the departing trio, stating: "The club would like to place on record its thanks to Ryan, Nigel and Sam for their efforts and wishes all three the very best for the future."

With immediate effect, first-team coach James Morrison has been tasked with overseeing first-team affairs on an interim basis. The club has now begun the process of appointing a permanent successor to steer the team away from the lower reaches of the Championship.

Search for Stability Begins

The sacking highlights the intense pressure and short timelines for success in the second tier of English football. West Brom will be hoping for a swift and effective appointment to bring stability and improve their fortunes, particularly on their travels, as they aim to climb the Championship table.
