Arsenal legend Jack Wilshere has urged Mikel Arteta to start Myles Lewis-Skelly in central midfield for Saturday's Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest. The Gunners face a formidable PSG side that has dominated Europe this season, and Arteta's team selection will be the most critical decision of his managerial career.
Wilshere's Verdict on Lewis-Skelly
Wilshere, now manager of Luton Town, worked closely with Lewis-Skelly during his time coaching Arsenal's youth teams. He believes the teenager is naturally suited to midfield, despite primarily playing at left-back this season. Speaking at the SoccerAid media day, Wilshere said: 'What I love about Myles is his character. He goes towards pressure, in life and football. If asked to play midfield, he would do a great job.'
Confidence in the Youngster
Wilshere added: 'I worked with Myles and thought he would be a midfielder. Arteta has done outstanding to find a position for him because he has so much ability. He can play left-back, midfield, and I think he will end up in midfield. It might not be consistent now, but eventually he will. He has the ability, awareness, and I was happy to see him there.'
Lewis-Skelly spent much of the campaign competing with Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie at left-back. He earned his first starting berth in central midfield in Arsenal's emphatic 3-0 win over Fulham, a decision that may prove pivotal in his development into a cornerstone player for the club in Budapest.
