Roger Federer has stated he will not make a decision regarding his participation in the Tokyo Olympics until after Wimbledon. The 20-time Grand Slam champion, who turns 40 in August, said his choice depends on how his body responds during the grass-court major.
Federer, who won singles silver at London 2012, confirmed his intention to compete in the Games but emphasised the need for caution. 'It's still my intention to go to the Olympic Games,' he said. 'But we will reassess everything after Wimbledon. It really depends on results and how the body is feeling.'
The Swiss star acknowledged that age requires him to be selective with his schedule. 'With age, we have to be more selective, I can't play it all,' he added. Federer previously skipped the 2016 Rio Olympics to recover from a knee injury.
Federer has an Olympic gold medal in men's doubles from Beijing 2008 with Stan Wawrinka. He faces Adrian Mannarino in the Wimbledon first round and is on the opposite side of the draw from Novak Djokovic.
