Wrexham's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have been cautioned that the Championship will 'chew you up and spit you out' as they pursue their Premier League dream. The Welsh club has secured three consecutive promotions under their ownership, rising from the National League to the second tier, and after their latest promotion in April, the duo made clear their ambition to reach the top flight.
They have backed up their words with serious investment, sanctioning a £33million summer spending spree. However, Wrexham currently languish in 18th place in the Championship with just ten points from nine games. Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes Phil Parkinson's side have shown promise but issued a stark warning about the difficulty of the division.
"I've seen improvement from Wrexham," Goodman told talkSPORT Bet. "They've gone from losing three of the first five games to being unbeaten against some decent opponents. That's progress. But they can't rest on their laurels because this league, if you do, will chew you up and spit you out."
Former Wrexham striker Matt Jansen also weighed in, saying it is realistic to reach the Premier League but will take time. "It's an incredibly difficult league," he told the Fearless in Devotion podcast. "It would take a lot of consolidation within the Championship to have a chance of getting up there. I think a mid-table finish this season would be good for Wrexham."
