Brooks Koepka Seeks PGA Tour Return After Quitting LIV Golf League
Koepka Applies for PGA Tour Return After LIV Exit

In a dramatic twist for the world of professional golf, five-time major champion Brooks Koepka has taken formal steps to return to the PGA Tour, mere weeks after his departure from the rival LIV Golf circuit.

The Shock Exit and Immediate Application

The American star, a foundational figure in LIV's controversial 2022 launch, walked away from the Saudi-backed league on 23 December 2025, despite having a year remaining on his contract. It was reported at his initial signing that he joined LIV for a fee in the region of $100 million (£74.6m).

Koepka, 35, had been suspended by the PGA Tour following his original defection and had not renewed his membership prior to the 2022/23 season. However, according to reports, he informed the PGA Tour of his intention to leave LIV before making his exit public. His management cited family reasons for the decision, stating he wished to "spend more time at home" while remaining a "huge supporter" of LIV Golf.

Controversy and Calls for Penalty

The PGA Tour responded to the news with a cryptic statement, wishing Koepka and his family success while reiterating that the Tour offers "the most competitive, challenging and lucrative environment." This fuelled immediate speculation about a possible return.

However, the move has not been universally welcomed. Prominent analyst and former golfer Brandel Chamblee has argued strongly that Koepka should face consequences before being readmitted. "Allowing Brooks Koepka to return to the PGA Tour with no consequence, would undermine the very meritocratic foundations that make the PGA Tour legitimate," Chamblee stated. He warned that allowing a swift return based on talent sets a "corrosive" precedent that rules apply only to less exceptional players.

Family Diverging Paths

In a contrasting development, Koepka's brother, Chase Koepka, is attempting to move in the opposite direction. An original LIV player at the league's inaugural London event, Chase was relegated after the 2023 season and later suffered serious nerve damage. He is now reportedly trying to earn one of three cards back onto the LIV Golf circuit for the 2026 season.

The saga underscores the ongoing turbulence and shifting loyalties within elite golf, as the sport's top stars navigate the lucrative offers from LIV and the traditional prestige of the PGA Tour.
