Arteta's Arsenal injury update: White out, Havertz close, Zubimendi fit for Everton
Arsenal injury news: White out, Havertz close for Everton

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has delivered a comprehensive update on his squad's fitness ahead of a crucial Premier League trip to Everton this Saturday. The Gunners, aiming to maintain their lead at the top of the table over the festive period, have benefited from a rare full week without a midweek fixture.

Defensive concerns and positive returns

Arteta confirmed a significant blow in defence, with Ben White ruled out of the match at Goodison Park. The defender sustained an injury during last weekend's victory over Wolves. However, the manager offered a positive prognosis, stating, "It's not a major injury, but it will keep him out for a few games." He added that White is a "fast healer" and could return around the turn of the year.

There was better news regarding fellow defender Gabriel Magalhaes, who is "evolving really well" in his recovery. Arteta revealed the Brazilian is already doing pitch sessions and is "not too far" from a return, potentially around the same timeframe as White.

Summer signing Martin Zubimendi, who was absent from training earlier in the week, is fully fit. Arteta attributed his absence to "load management" for players with heavy recent minutes, assuring the midfielder will be involved as normal against Everton.

Major boost in attack

The most encouraging update came regarding attacker Kai Havertz. The German, who has been sidelined since the opening day of the season, is "progressing really well and quite fast in the last few weeks." Arteta expressed strong optimism, saying, "We are really positive that if everything continues like that... he's going to be with us."

The manager, however, remained cautious about naming an exact return date, emphasising the need for a firm, step-by-step approach to ensure Havertz's comeback is long-term. "I do [have a game in mind]," Arteta said, "I don't want to say because... we need to be cautious."

Other squad news ahead of Everton clash

Defender Riccardo Calafiori is available again after serving a one-game suspension against Wolves. He had been managing a minor hip issue from November's international break but is now set for selection.

Two players face longer spells on the sidelines. Cristhian Mosquera is expected to remain out until mid-to-late January 2026 with an ankle injury, while young talent Max Dowman is also facing a recovery period stretching into the new year after suffering an ankle ligament injury in an Under-21s friendly in early December.

With a full week of preparation behind them and a mix of returning players, Arteta will be hoping his squad can navigate a tricky away fixture and solidify their position at the Premier League summit.
