Arsenal's Ben White out for season with knee injury, World Cup in doubt
Arsenal's White out for season, World Cup hopes fading

Arsenal’s Ben White has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after sustaining a serious knee injury during Sunday’s 1-0 victory over West Ham, casting doubt on his participation in the upcoming World Cup.

Injury Details and Recovery

The 28-year-old England international was forced off in the first half at the London Stadium and left the ground wearing a brace on his injured knee. Arsenal confirmed on Tuesday that White suffered a “significant medial ligament injury” and will miss the final three matches of the campaign, including the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain scheduled for 30 May in Budapest.

“Our medical team are now managing Ben’s recovery and rehabilitation programme, with everyone fully focused on supporting the aim of Ben being ready for the start of our pre-season preparations,” the club stated.

World Cup Implications

White had only recently returned to the England squad in March after a four-year absence, under manager Thomas Tuchel. He scored his first international goal in a draw with Uruguay and started against Japan four days later. Tuchel is set to name his 26-man World Cup squad a week on Friday, and White’s absence now appears likely to rule him out of contention.

Arsenal’s Defensive Crisis

White’s injury adds to Arsenal’s problems at right-back, with first-choice Jurriën Timber already sidelined since mid-March due to a groin issue. Timber has not played since the win over Everton on 14 March and manager Mikel Arteta last week suggested the Dutch defender may not feature again this season. “There’s still a fair bit to do so everything has to be so smooth and quick if they want to have a chance to play any minutes,” Arteta said.

Against West Ham, Arteta moved Declan Rice to right-back before substituting Martín Zubimendi for Cristhian Mosquera, acknowledging it was a mistake. Arsenal still have league fixtures against Burnley and Crystal Palace as they pursue their first league title in 22 years, before the Champions League final.

Fan Conduct Concerns

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have warned supporters that selling tickets to Arsenal fans for the final-day match at Selhurst Park could result in bans from season tickets or memberships. This follows scuffles in home sections at the London Stadium after Arsenal took the lead, with social media footage showing a fan being pushed down stairs. Palace said they will implement enhanced security measures, including disabling ticket sharing to prevent unauthorised transfers and touting.
