England are reportedly hopeful that Jofra Archer could make his international return in January 2023, after nearly two years out with injury. The 27-year-old last played for England in March 2021 and has since undergone two elbow operations and suffered a stress fracture of the back.
According to the Telegraph, England are 'cautiously optimistic' that Archer will be fit for the three-match ODI series against South Africa in January, which was postponed from 2020 due to Covid. The specific dates are yet to be confirmed.
Archer is currently back bowling with Sussex and is set to join England's Test squad for a training camp in Abu Dhabi starting November 18, as part of preparations for the Pakistan Test series in December. However, he will not be ready for that series.
Former England bowler Steven Finn, now a teammate at Sussex, provided an update on Archer's recovery. 'He's progressing nicely,' Finn told the i. 'I've seen him batting in the nets recently, which I think shows it's getting better.'
Archer has also incorporated Pilates into his rehabilitation, working with Anaya Grover from Men Do Pilates. 'Pilates has been an integral addition to my rehab and training programme,' Archer said. 'I feel more resilient.'
