Manchester United Hit by Injury Crisis Ahead of Everton Clash
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has delivered a significant triple injury update, confirming his squad will be without key players for Monday night's Premier League fixture against Everton at Old Trafford.
Sesko Sidelined for Weeks
The most substantial blow comes with the news that Benjamin Sesko will be unavailable for several weeks. The £74 million summer signing from RB Leipzig was forced off during United's dramatic draw with Tottenham before the international break.
Amorim stated, "He is going to stay a few weeks out. We have to be careful with him but it’s not that serious." The striker subsequently missed international duty with Slovenia and was absent from United's Friday training session at Carrington.
Defensive and Midfield Concerns
The injury concerns extend beyond Sesko. Defender Harry Maguire is confirmed to be "not ready" to feature against Everton, dealing another blow to United's defensive options.
There is slightly more optimism regarding young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. While he also missed Friday's session, Amorim revealed that Mainoo is expected to train on Saturday, with a decision on his availability to be made ahead of the Monday night fixture.
Tactical Adjustments and January Window
Sesko's extended absence, having contributed two goals and one assist in his 12 appearances, forces Amorim to reconsider his attacking strategy. The manager is likely to deploy Matheus Cunha as a false number nine, flanked by Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo.
Looking further ahead, Amorim hinted at potential January transfer activity, acknowledging the upcoming challenge of losing Mbeumo to the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon. "Of course, we are going to have a problem there (AFCON), but we already knew that," he said, suggesting the club may look to strengthen when the window opens.
