Tottenham's Richarlison Ruled Out for 7 Weeks with Hamstring Injury
Spurs' Richarlison out for 7 weeks with hamstring injury

Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with a significant injury setback just days before a crucial London derby, with key forward Richarlison expected to be sidelined for nearly two months.

Major Blow for Spurs Attack

The club confirmed on Thursday that the Brazilian international suffered a hamstring injury during last weekend's FA Cup clash with Aston Villa. Manager Thomas Frank revealed the severity of the issue, stating the player faces up to seven weeks on the treatment table.

This absence deals a substantial blow to Tottenham's attacking plans, given Richarlison's influential form this campaign. The striker has been directly involved in ten Premier League goals, scoring seven and providing three assists.

Derby Focus and Squad Updates

The timing is particularly painful with a high-stakes match against London rivals West Ham United looming this Saturday. Despite the intense rivalry, Frank urged his team to concentrate on their own performance.

"I know it's a big London derby, of course, against West Ham, with the rivalry and everything, but it's all about us," the Danish coach said. "It's how we come out with energy, positive, forward."

There is more positive news elsewhere in the squad, however:

  • Midfielder Yves Bissouma is due back after Ivory Coast's Africa Cup of Nations exit.
  • Lucas Bergvall could be available for selection.
  • Defender Destiny Udogie and striker Dominic Solanke are both nearing full fitness.
  • Captain Cristian Romero returns from a one-match suspension.

League Context and Gallagher Praise

The injury comes as Spurs look to bounce back from their FA Cup elimination and improve their league position. They currently sit 14th in the Premier League table with 27 points from 21 games. Their upcoming opponents, West Ham, are in the relegation zone with 14 points, seven from safety.

Frank also took time to praise the club's recent midfield acquisition, Conor Gallagher, signed from Atletico Madrid. He described the 25-year-old as a "top signing", highlighting his Premier League experience, leadership, and quality.

"First and foremost he is a very good player, great experience in the Premier League, also in La Liga, captained teams," Frank added. "So that character, that leadership, that experience, and still young."
