Stoke City's New Year's Day victory was overshadowed by a distressing injury to match-winner Robert Bozenik, who was left in tears after being forced off the pitch.
Goal and Agony for Stoke Striker
The Slovakian forward had been the hero for Stoke City in their 1-0 away win against Hull City, scoring the decisive goal in the 39th minute. However, his afternoon turned to misery just moments into the second half when he sustained what appeared to be a serious injury to his arm and shoulder.
Following a heavy challenge, Bozenik went down in clear distress. The referee immediately signalled for medical assistance, and defender Ben Gibson urgently gestured to manager Mark Robins that a substitution would be necessary.
Lengthy Delay and Emotional Exit
The treatment on the pitch was extensive, with the 26-year-old requiring oxygen during the long delay. The incident led to 17 minutes of stoppage time being added at the end of the Championship fixture.
Although a stretcher was brought onto the pitch, the medical team fashioned a makeshift sling from Bozenik's shirt, allowing him to walk off. The player was visibly in a huge amount of pain, hobbling to the touchline with tears in his eyes before being replaced by Sam Gallagher.
Playoff Push Marred by Injury Blow
The injury cast a shadow over a crucial three points for Stoke, which saw them climb to ninth in the Championship table. The club has not yet confirmed the full extent of the damage, posting only that they were "forced into a change following a lengthy delay" on their official social media account.
Bozenik's goal was his first since joining from Portuguese side Boavista in the summer, making the injury setback particularly bitter. The Potters will be desperate for a swift recovery as they continue their push for a playoff spot, with a Championship match against Norwich and an FA Cup third-round tie against Coventry on the horizon.
