British Formula One driver Ollie Bearman has escaped serious injury following a dramatic high-speed crash during Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka Circuit. The incident occurred as Bearman attempted an aggressive overtaking manoeuvre on the 22nd lap of the race.
High-Speed Incident at Spoon Curve
Bearman lost control of his Haas car while trying to pass Alpine driver Franco Colapinto for 15th position. The accident happened at the challenging Spoon Curve, with Bearman travelling at approximately 140 miles per hour when he veered off the track.
Dramatic Crash Sequence
The 20-year-old driver, competing in just his second F1 season, ended up on the grass on the left side of the circuit before crashing through multiple polystyrene distance boards. His car ultimately came to rest against the safety barrier, sustaining significant damage in the process.
Bearman managed to emerge from the destroyed vehicle but was visibly injured, unable to put any weight on his right leg. Two marshals assisted him away from the wreckage before he briefly slumped to the ground. Medical personnel subsequently transported him to the on-track medical centre for evaluation and X-rays.

A Haas team spokesperson provided an update on Bearman's condition, revealing the crash involved a substantial 50G impact force. The medical examination confirmed no fractures, with Bearman diagnosed with a right knee contusion resulting from the impact.
The spokesperson added that Bearman remained alert and communicating throughout the assessment process, indicating positive signs despite the severity of the accident.
Race Impact and Safety Car Deployment
Bearman's crash prompted immediate safety measures, with race officials deploying the safety car. This intervention allowed competitor Kimi Antonelli to execute a free tyre change while maintaining his position, ultimately assuming the lead of the Grand Prix.
