Hungary's international friendly against Kazakhstan on Tuesday evening was overshadowed by a serious stadium malfunction when a television camera fell from the roof onto the pitch. The incident occurred at the Nagyerdei Stadion in Debrecen, where Hungary secured a 3-1 victory.
Camera fall halts play
The camera, suspended 20 metres above the pitch by wires, began smoking in the first half after a fire damaged its cable. In the 26th minute, the heavy device plummeted to the ground, landing just metres from a pitchside cameraman. Fortunately, no one was injured, and play was temporarily stopped while the wreckage was removed.
Szoboszlai shines for Hungary
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai captained his side and played a key role in the comeback. After falling behind in the ninth minute, Hungary equalised early in the second half through Szoboszlai. He then provided an assist for Andras Schäfer to put the hosts ahead. Bournemouth's Alex Tóth sealed the 3-1 win in injury time.
Liverpool debutant features
Szoboszlai was not the only Liverpool player on the pitch. Reserve goalkeeper Armin Pecsi made his senior international debut as a second-half substitute, coming on just after the hour mark. The 21-year-old joined Liverpool last summer but has yet to make a first-team appearance. He was nearly called into action against Crystal Palace in April when Freddie Woodman required lengthy treatment.
Hungary failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, meaning Szoboszlai, Pecsi, and Milos Kerkez will not feature in the tournament.
