Jordan Pickford remains driven to propel England and Everton forward as he gears up for a pivotal role in yet another World Cup campaign. The upcoming tournament marks the fifth major international showcase of his career, with the Everton shot-stopper having reached two European Championship finals and the latter stages of the World Cup. Now, he is eager to finally taste success with the national team after coming so close in the past.
Enjoying the Journey
Speaking to the Everton media team ahead of the World Cup, which kicks off on Thursday, Pickford said: "You have to enjoy the ride and the journey these tournaments take you on. Every day you wake up with a smile, soaking in the experiences of being with the group and performing on the world stage. When it comes to the games, it is superb. We know we will have tremendous support, as always, and our goal is to go all the way and win it."
Confidence Under Tuchel
Pickford enters the tournament as England's number one, having impressed under new manager Thomas Tuchel. His standout performances in previous tournaments and a season of stunning saves for Everton have solidified his position. The 32-year-old, who signed a new contract with Everton this season, added: "We have come so close and faced many disappointments, but we talk about the journeys, and we want this to be our moment. It is never plain sailing—these tournaments are rollercoasters of ups and downs—but you have to ride them and keep going. With Thomas Tuchel as our new manager, this is our first tournament with him, and he will put his own stamp on it. We will step on the gas because we all know where we want to get to."
Continuous Improvement
Pickford emphasized that his approach to representing England and Everton remains unchanged despite his experience. He is determined to keep improving. "I feel like I am getting better all the time, with each game and training session. That has always been my goal. I constantly ask myself, 'How can I improve?' and demand more from myself. That mindset has brought me to where I am today, playing so many games for Everton and England. I want to contribute in every way possible. I strive to be a leader in whatever team I am in. While only one player wears the captain's armband, success requires more leaders than that. I want to play my part in driving my team forward—for Everton and for England."
