Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Ben Davies has signed a new one-year contract, while Yves Bissouma is set to leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
Davies extends stay despite injury
Ben Davies, 33, has committed to Tottenham for the 2026/27 season, despite suffering a serious ankle injury in January that required two operations and sidelined him for the rest of the campaign. The Welsh defender, who joined Spurs from Swansea City in 2014, has made 363 appearances for the club and played a key role in their Europa League triumph last season.
Davies made only five appearances in the 2025/26 season due to injuries, including a hamstring problem earlier in the campaign. However, his influence in the dressing room is considered invaluable, especially for younger players.
Speaking after signing his new deal, Davies said: "Tottenham Hotspur really feels like home. It's been a huge part of my football journey and I'm grateful for what the club has given me so far in my career. It's been difficult over the past few months, not being able to help the team on the pitch in some tough moments due to injury. So I tried to help the boys off it as much as I could, being a voice in the dressing room and around the group, contributing in any way I can. My heart's on my sleeve for this club and I'll give everything for it."
Bissouma departs on free transfer
Yves Bissouma, 29, joined Tottenham from Brighton for £30 million in 2022 and made 111 appearances. He played a crucial role in the Europa League win, including the final against Manchester United. Despite flashes of brilliance, inconsistency has plagued his time at Spurs, and the club has opted not to renew his contract.
Bissouma is one of 11 players leaving Tottenham this summer. The others include Pele Arganese-McDermott, Tyrell Ashcroft, Leo Black, Dante Cassanova, Matthew Craig, Calum Logan, Jamel Beggs, Samal Bangura, Leon Myrtaj, and Elijah Upson.
Davies' new contract provides stability for the squad, while Bissouma's departure marks the end of a mixed tenure at the club. Spurs fans will hope Davies can recover fully and contribute on the pitch next season.
