England Complete T20 Whitewash Over Sri Lanka as Spinners Shine in Kandy

England have secured a comprehensive 3-0 T20 series whitewash over Sri Lanka with a thrilling 12-run victory in Kandy, showcasing a remarkable spin bowling performance ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Low-Scoring Thriller Sees England Defend Record Total

In a tense and dramatic final match, England successfully defended their lowest-ever total in T20 cricket, setting Sri Lanka just 129 runs to win. The hosts were bowled out for 116, with England's spinners delivering a masterclass in controlled bowling on a challenging pitch.

Will Jacks claimed three wickets for just 14 runs, while Jacob Bethell produced a stunning spell of four wickets for 11 runs, completely stifling Sri Lanka's chase and securing England's series clean sweep.

Curran Leads Recovery and Claims Double Honour

Sam Curran was the standout performer for England, earning both player of the match and player of the series awards. His crucial innings of 58 runs from 48 balls rescued England from a precarious position of 60 for six, providing the backbone of their total.

"It was the third time on the same wicket, 130 felt a decent score," Curran said after the victory. "We had some spinners who made the difference. It was a fun game. A fantastic series win and off to Mumbai tomorrow."

Curran added: "Great to be back in the side and contributing. We played well and the confidence is really good. The first two T20s were good and today it was different with the turn. We should be proud of 3-0 series win."

Captain Brook Hails 'Awesome' Victory

England captain Harry Brook described the victory as "awesome" and emphasised the importance of the experience gained ahead of the World Cup, which will be co-hosted in Sri Lanka.

"That was awesome and one of the most fun wins I've been part of," Brook said. "The way the lads kept fighting was awesome. We have shown we can adapt to different surfaces and tonight was difficult but the way Sam Curran batted was brilliant. Then the way the spinners bowled 17 overs was awesome."

Brook continued: "The World Cup is going to be co-hosted here and when we get the opportunity to play here we can carry that experience over. It's been an awesome tour and hopefully we'll come back to Sri Lanka a few more times."

Strong Tour Builds World Cup Momentum

The T20 series whitewash completes a successful tour of Sri Lanka for England, following their 2-1 victory in the ODI series. This strong performance provides positive momentum as England prepare for the World Cup campaign.

England will now fly to Mumbai on Wednesday, where they will face Nepal in their tournament opener on Sunday, carrying with them the confidence gained from their dominant display in Sri Lanka.
