ITV Secures Landmark Free-to-Air Deal for Rugby's Nations Championship
ITV Wins Major Rugby Deal for Nations Championship

ITV has announced a significant and landmark new broadcasting agreement that will bring rugby's inaugural Nations Championship to free-to-air television in the United Kingdom. This deal represents a major coup for the broadcaster, ensuring extensive coverage of international rugby over the coming years.

Comprehensive Coverage of New Tournament

The agreement encompasses every match of the first two editions of the Nations Championship in 2026 and 2028. This new tournament will feature top European teams competing against sides from the Rugby Championship, as well as Fiji and Japan, with the finals set to be held at the iconic Twickenham Stadium in London.

Expanded Rugby Portfolio for ITV

In addition to the Nations Championship, ITV's deal includes broadcast rights for warm-up fixtures ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup and further international rugby action scheduled for 2029. This comprehensive package guarantees free-to-air coverage for a minimum of 124 international matches over the next four years, significantly expanding ITV's rugby offerings.

Competitive Victory and Extended Commitments

ITV successfully outbid competitors such as TNT Sports to secure this agreement, highlighting its strategic focus on sports broadcasting. Furthermore, the broadcaster has reinforced its commitment to rugby by extending its existing deal with Premiership Rugby. This extension adds two more years to the arrangement, ensuring ITV continues to broadcast seven live Premiership Rugby games per season.

This landmark deal not only enhances ITV's sports portfolio but also ensures that rugby fans across the UK have access to high-profile international matches without subscription fees, promoting the sport's visibility and accessibility.
